The Book of Concord

God speaks and God has spoken.  Everything that He wants His world to know was written down by His chosen instruments through inspiration of the Holy Spirit in the Bible.  All the prophetic and apostolic writings of the Holy Bible are God’s Word.  There is no other authority for faith and life than the written revelation of God in Sacred Scripture.  It is by the Word of God and by His Word alone that we live and die in joyful anticipation of the glorious reappearing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  We believe.

The One Who came to bring life eternal through His death, resurrection, and ascension also calls on the Church to confess Him.  His Word flies forth on wings and raises souls from spiritual death.  Souls that believe the sweet message of the Gospel, come up from spiritual death confessing, witnessing, testifying, proclaiming, and speaking this faith in Christ.  We are not ashamed!  We must speak as the apostle Peter proclaimed, “We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard (Acts 4:20).”

This is what the documents of the Book of Concord are all about.  They are not musty, old relics from history.  They are the living confession of God’s people, who have clung to the truth of what God has revealed in His Word.  The Book of Concord came into existence through saints of God who would not sink into the cold, cultural compromise of anything less.  Since many are satisfied to pick and choose only what they want from the Scriptures, these documents set forth a vibrant and audible confession of what the orthodox, catholic, and evangelical Church of Christ has always believed.  Christians who embrace the documents of this book as their teaching, their belief, and their confession also believe that it is possible for people to know and be certain about truth.  Because we believe, we speak.

Christians who want to be true and faithful to the teachings of the Bible return, again and again, to this book.  In these confessions of faith they find agreement, unity, and harmony in the truths of God’s Word.  Today, we who hold to these Confessions make the Book of Concord our confession, our witness, our public testimony of what the Bible teaches.  With Martin Luther, we say, “Here we stand.  We cannot do otherwise.  God help us.  Amen.”  You may begin a study of these confessions of faith by clicking here – THE BOOK OF CONCORD.
